Layer 1: The "Active" Tap (NFC)
The Tech: Uses Near Field Communication (NFC) chips.
iPhone: Since 2018 (iPhone XR/XS), Apple has supported "Background Tag Reading." This means no app is needed; the phone is always "listening" for a Newbi card tap.
Android: Roughly 95% of Android devices (Samsung, Huawei, Honor, etc.) since 2021 have NFC enabled.
User Tip: On Android, the NFC sensor is usually in the centre of the back. On iPhone, it is at the very top edge.
Layer 2: The "Universal" Scan (QR)
The Tech: If a device is older or has NFC turned off, the Dynamic QR code on your Newbi card/phone screen acts as a 100% fail-safe.
Compatibility: Every smartphone with a working camera (even from 10+ years ago) can read a QR code.
Layer 3: The "Digital Wallet" (Offline/App-free)
The Tech: Newbi cards can be saved to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
Benefit: This allows you to share your card via your Apple Watch or phone lock screen even if you don't have your physical NFC card on you.
